Wicklow businesses are set to benefit from tax measures announced under the Government’s Jobs Initiative which will come into effect on Friday (July 1). Under the initiative, the lower rate of employers’ PRSI was halved, while there was a 4.5% reduction in VAT across a range of tourism related services.
Praising the measures, Deputy Harris said, “Protecting jobs and supporting small and medium enterprises is a top priority of this Government. I have met with a wide range of businesses across Wicklow, all of whom have welcomed these measures as an important first step in protecting and supporting employment.”
“Many businesses in Wicklow rely on the tourist trade,” continued Deputy Harris, “So the new VAT rate of 9%, a reduction from 13.5%, will be particularly welcome. Consumers will also benefit from this reduced rate, which will apply to restaurant and catering services, hotel and holiday accommodation, sporting facilities, cinemas and hairdressers until 2013.”
