National collection for hospices around Ireland taking place on June 8th and 9th
Fine Gael Wicklow TD, Simon Harris, has urged Wicklow residents to support the national collection for hospices taking place today and tomorrow, June 8th and 9th. “Spending just a few Euro on a sunflower pin or some seeds for your garden can make a huge difference overall,” said Deputy Harris.
“Sunflower day is one of the most important fundraising events of the year for the hospice services. The event is coordinated by the Irish Hospice Foundation, but all of the funds raised locally are used locally.”
“Research has shown that hospice patients live longer, and in greater comfort and dignity. This is what we all want for ourselves and our loved ones, and I will be continuing to work with the Wicklow Hospice Foundation’s to secure a purpose-built hospice in Wicklow.”
“Appropriate hospice facilities are needed now more than ever: at present, over 6,000 people require access to hospice and specialist palliative care every year, but it is estimated this figure could rise to up to 13,000 people by 2016.”
