Construction expected to begin on Arklow-Rathnew Upgrade in final quarter of 2012.

Fine Gael Wicklow TD, Simon Harris, has today (Tuesday) received an update from the Minister of Transport, Tourism and Sport on the upgrade of the N11 and planned for the Arklow to Rathnew and Newland’s Cross sections. It is estimated construction on the project will begin in the final quarter of 2012.

Deputy Harris said, “I have been informed by the Minister this road upgrade is seen as a priority transport project by his Department and I am delighted to see progress being made on this important upgrade. Ultimately it will lead to reduced journey times for Wicklow commuters and improved safety for all road users.”

“The project will be funded by a Public Private Partnership and will comprise of the construction of a new 16.5km section of motorway standard road between Arklow and Rathnew, the maintenance of 30km of existing road along the M11, construction of an online service at Gorey and the upgrade of the N7 Newlands Cross to a grade-separated junction.”

“Statutory approval has already been granted for the scheme and the necessary land acquired. Funding arrangements have been agreed, and I am informed the contract negotiations are in the closing stages.”
