Fine Gael Wicklow TD, Simon Harris, has welcomed confirmation the Government is drawing up legislation to make the National Asset Management Agency subject to the Freedom of Information Act. The legislation will cover all state bodies and proposals to include non-public bodies in receipt of significant state funding are also being included.”

Welcoming the news, Deputy Harris said, “It is very important we are able to see greater accountability and transparency both in relation to NAMA and across our society. I am glad to see the Government taking positive steps to enable this. The legislation is currently being drafted, and will be presented to the Dáil following the summer recess.”

“Another important aspect of the legislation will be a reduction in the fees for appeals. I would hope this will play a role in making it easier for members of the public to access the information they need.”
